Its been a while since we heard Eddie bring us some of that Eddieish, rated R type of talk that he brought to us in this movie. After a while of Eddie casting in the PG movies, he gave the Audience in “Dolemite is my name” a little treat. Eddie plays a hustler by the name of Rudy Moore. The movies take off showing Moore, who has a record he is recording in the living room of his aunt, And he is trying his best to get the DJ to spin it. The local DJ looks to be unimpressed by the record and mentions Moore that their time is up.
And mentions not wanting to run a radio station out of a record store. Actually it’s that record store that keeps the DJ, Moore and his friend Toney employed. Toney is played by Titus Burgess, and it’s toney’s part of the job to keep away a change begging wino from their store. Jones, played by Keegan Michael Key, does not sound the most intelligent while speaking and his vocabulary definitely stinks, but not as much as he does physically. He finds himself staggering into the store, to anyone who gives Jones the slightest bit of attention he will entertain the listener with the stories about Dolemite, the baddest guy who ever lived. With every word captivating the listeners. Moore had thought to himself, he can take these stories from Jones add a little touch to them and throw them back to today’s world, by making a comedy album. Jones and fellow comrades usually spin their yarns for funds around a garbage can with fire, This is where Moore gathers his stories.
Jones and his guys may be drunk but wisdom earned from harsh experiences does not go without. Moores comedy albums were successful, With one even hitting the billboard, Now Moore is thinking to himself, what’s the next move. He is wondering what should be the next adventure for Dolemite. Moore and a couple of friends are watching “The Front Page” and this is the very moment where the thought of his next mission for Dolemite, he realizes that he need to be on the big screen. He thought to himself Wilders comedy isn’t even that entertaining and it happens to make it to big screens all across America, so why cant he. And he will not allow his mediocre knowledge about cinema stop that mission, Moore is destined to make this Dolemite movie come true.
pretty sure viewers will agree that Eddie, being the superb actor that he is, did not really play moore to the core like he should have. He didnt switch up his voice a bit to sound more like Moore, It sometimes feels like instead of Eddie being the character, it feels more as if he is paying adoration. The magic sprinkle that gives Eddie a hand in the movie is Lady Reed played by Da’vine Joy Randolph. their chemistry in this film is magical. They are definitely a stand out highlight in the film.
